Helmets and Seat belts.

First there was the run for helmets, now there is the run for seat belts. Why is the government and courts so keen in enforcing these laws on citizens. Are the citizens only to be blamed for the rising number of accidents and ensuing deaths? Aren't government to be blamed as well for not providing good quality roads and enforcing proper traffic rules? I wish the government had shown at least half the interest they have shown in enforcing these laws in maintaining usable Roads. Why don't the courts mandate the state government to maintain the quality of the roads?

I'm sorry, but mandating seat belts in cars is just common sense and will save many lives. Of course seat belts and helmets will not solve the problems of traffic accidents, but they can save peoples lives and I don't see a convincing argument against it.

The govt is just trying to enforce rules..Why cant people accept it and live by the laws?? You would do it if you were in US or UK...why not in India?

you are blaming the govt for not being proactive adn now when they try to...they get blamed again...!!

What I have problem with is it seems all the responsibility is on the citizens. All the government seems to be doing is sitting there and passing laws and expect citizens to shut up and keep obeying them. What about their responsibilities for providing better infrastructure and safe roads. Enforcing Helmets and Seat belts doesn't do anything to reduce the rate of accidents does it? Of course it might reduce the risk of injuries.
